The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism is in the development phase of three new parks in Charles County – Waldorf Park, Popes Creek Waterfront Park, and La Plata Farm Park. Citizens are invited to view the park plans and concepts developed by the Project Planning Task Force, department staff, and consultants and provide input at two upcoming community meetings.
The in-person meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Waldorf Senior and Recreational Center (90 Post Office Rd, Waldorf).
The virtual meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. via Zoom. Virtual attendees can register online at https://bit.ly/3R4ePAS. Attendees will receive a confirmation email with information on joining virtually.

Active Play Time promotes exploration of the attractions in the park while helping to develop hand-eye coordination, balance, and social skills.
Craft Time – Nurture Their Creativity!
Kids are natural creators, filled with curiosity and imagination. Our craft projects are uniquely designed to nurture our Little Leapers creativity and help develop a lifelong love for crafting! Craft Time is the perfect way to cultivate new skills and interests in the next generation.

Details:On February 25, 2023, Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) will host the 10th Annual Science and Engineering EXPO at Calvert High School from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This family event is free and open to the public.
The EXPO will showcase CCPS science and engineering programs and STEM organizations from the local community. Exhibits will be engaging for both children and adults, designed to spark interest in STEM classes and careers. The hands-on activities will include computer coding, biomedical experiments, robots, math games, catapults, and much more for the entire family to explore.

Ticket sales will benefit Team Fly4ACure’s fundraiser campaign as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Student Visionaries of the Year (SVOY) program. The Playful Parent was created by Kristy a mother of three energetic boys. She has a Bachelors degree with a interest in Education and Masters in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. “I believe that children learn through play! I love to do fun things with my children and hope that sharing our adventures provides other families with inspiration and resources that lead to quality time together and a love for learning!” This non profit 501c3 organization was started so parents would have a family friendly place to come to, feel supported and leave with information that is useful. This site is kept advertisement and influence free in order to keep the page from clutter and bias opinion. Your support, feedback, likes and comments are essential; this site was designed to connect the community. The Playful Parent offers resources such as guides, calendars and ideas for making learning fun. In addition, TPP is present in the community and hosts a handful of events to support SOMD in raising healthy families.
