Paul S. Lockhart, USAF (Ret.), to share his experiences in space. Lockhart’s inspirational presentation informs students about the connection between education and exciting future career opportunities. There will be many hands-on activities and fun for everyone in the family at this free event! The goal of the L3Harris collaboration with the Space Foundation is to interest students in considering STEM careers and taking courses in high school that will position them to successfully pursue STEM studies in college.

    Details: Northern Cardinals, one of the most popular and easily recognized bird species in the eastern United States, have a wonderful and interesting natural history that has captivated many bird watchers and scientists alike. Dr. Jodie Jawor has worked with Northern Cardinals in their natural environments for 20 years investigating what that beautiful red plumage means to other cardinals, how hormones like testosterone impact their behavior, variation in territory defense, female behavior during nest defense, and parental care behaviors shown by both sexes. Dr. Jawor will discuss the natural history of cardinals interspersed with her research findings from work done with cardinal populations in Ohio, Indiana, and Mississippi. Come hear about one of the most popular birds at the bird feeder and get the inside scoop on their behaviors and daily activities.

    Information about our presenter:
    Jodie M. Jawor, Ph.D. is a behavioral ecologist and behavioral endocrinologist. Dr. Jawor received her doctoral degree at The University of Dayton and was an assistant and associate professor of Biology at the University of Southern Mississippi. Now a program director at the National Science Foundation Dr. Jawor still performs research with Northern Cardinals here in the Maryland area. Dr. Jawor is the author or co-author on numerous published research articles and has helped rewrite the soon-to-be-published Northern Cardinal species account for the Birds of North America species compilation.
