Inspired by classics such as The Secret Garden and Anne of Green Gables, this original story introduces us to the adventures of precocious orphan Hannah Hill. In the closing days of World War II, young Hannah is sent to live in the Tennessee mountains with her reclusive great-aunt Ella. Wanting nothing to do with her niece at first, Ella reluctantly lets her stay, and Hannah’s sunny outlook eventually wins over her distant aunt as well as friends at her new school. But just as Hannah starts to settle in, a heartless social worker sends her away to live with wealthier, “more capable” kin in Florida. There, Hannah encounters school acquaintances who conspire to make her miserable. Still, her boundless optimism manages to engage Hannah’s wheelchair-bound foster brother, Tom. And when the spunky orphan rescues Tom during a hurricane, Hannah comes to find that neither mountains high nor oceans wide can tear true family and friends apart.
