SUMMER LEARNING KICK OFF PARTY

Details: Join us and the Charles County Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism for a celebration like no other! This FREE event will feature Mad Science of DC STEM programs, a live music performance by Sun V Set, and #NRPAFamilyHealthDay demonstrations from the Charles County Department of Recreation! And while you're here, remember to sign-up for one of our three Summer Learning Challenges! Food will also be available for purchase from a selection of local food trucks. We've got something for everyone!

10-10:35AM | Mad Science Pre-K showLearn all about the science of magic! You will also explore chemistry through some slimy reactions that all the students will get to touch, feel, and experience for themselves. Finally, the show concludes with our dry ice/potions experiments, where you'll learn about dry ice and even touch and taste some real clouds!11-11:45AM | MadScience Kids ShowThis spectacular show thrills audiences with impressive science experiments. The event includes foggy dry ice clouds and the chemistry of fire! Learn all about the science of magic, including a disappearing water trick and fun with air pressure. This is one of our most popular shows, covering a wide variety of science topics, and excellent for audiences of any age range.12:30-1:30PM | MadScience of DC STEAM DemoEver wondered how the infamous fog effect is generated? You guessed it…dry ice! Not only is this extremely cold form of carbon dioxide good at fogging up a room but it is also used to illustrate several other cool effects. During this demonstration, children learn all of the chilling facts behind dry ice, in addition to conjuring up a few magical potions using the element itself.1-2PM| Sun V Set Live Musical PerformanceSun V Set is the musical expression of Linnea Morgan, with the co-creation of Ethan Johnstone (of Night Idea, Deau Eyes) and Ethan Kuhn (of Fight Cloud). They are based in Richmond, VA, and have played sporadically together for years, cementing their project as Sun V Set in 2020. Their songwriting is grounded in nature elements and paints a dreamy landscape interwoven with siren melodies, mystical chords, and understated grooves.
