    Gills Club Meeting

    The Calvert Marine Museum is proud to announce the addition of a new free program for girls interested in learning more about sharks. Gills Club is a STEM-focused program from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) with activities designed for girls ages 7 – 12. Meetings will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Preregistration is required. See link to register. AWSC is raising awareness about white sharks as a keystone species of the ocean ecosystem. It was established to support white shark research and education programs to ensure that this important species thrives. Meeting will be held on Thursdays, December 21, 2017; January 25, 2018; February 22, 2018; March 15, 2018, and April 26, 2018.

    "Fuel your Future with STEAM"

    Save the Date!
    February 24th will be a day filled with engaging speakers and hands-on STEAM activities dedicated to empowering girls and young women towards careers in STEAM.
    The Town of Indian Head Parks & Recreation Commission is partnering with industry leaders and experts in STEAM to bring attendees a comprehensive overview of how to get involved in STEAM, what STEAM is and how these fields can be used for personal career development.

    • Interested in hearing from innovative women panelists
    • Motivational presentations to inspire young women
    • Hands-on STEAM demonstrations
    • Lunch vouchers for 12:30pm meal provided at 10am Check-In.

    Details: You and your child are invited to meet us at the Greenwell Foundation, every Tuesday morning, for outdoor discoveries and learning, from September to May. Activities include: Sensory Play, Games, Songs, Art, Music, Stories, Seasonal Activities, Dance, and More. Age Group: up to 6 years old
    Cost: $5 per child
    Registration: Not required. Children attend with their adult
    Directions: Enter Greenwell State Park on Rosedale Manor Drive, go straight on the gravel, dirt road, between the fields, and take your first right. Park in the lot straight ahead and look for us in the outdoor classroom on the left.

    Details: Once a month we will have a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activity for early elementary age homeschool students. Join us for fun, learning, and socializing. Both sessions each month will be the same activity. In May we will be doing an Earth Science project.

    HEALTHY FIRST SATURDAY- PORT DISCOVERY CHILDRENS MUSEUM
    Date: 1ST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

    Location: Port Discovery Children's Museum, Baltimore, MD
    Details: Walk, skip, run or slide to Healthy First Saturday and find ways to get active as a family! Take part in enjoy programs that encourage children to get active, make healthy choices, and understand how our bodies work! Get Kinderfit! with the Kindersinger, stretch and learn new poses as a family during Life on Yoga Mountain and watch your little ones express themselves during our interactive theater workshop, Play Within a Play! Also not to miss: have a blast as you groove along with Faza Fam Family Jam, meet and learn about the important work of therapy dogs from FIDOS for Freedom, and take part in simple art and science projects that are fun, educational and that you can take home!

    Admission is free with museum entry, which is $15.95 for individuals two and up. Members and children under two enter free.
