    BLACK DIAMOND DISASTER EVENT

    Details:

    On the April 21, 2024, St. Mary's County Government’s Museum Division will remember the 87 lives lost in a tragedy during the American Civil War on the Potomac near St. Clement’s Island during the hunt for presidential assassin John Wilkes Booth.

    Activities will take place at St. Clement’s Island Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including free museum admission and boat rides, a folk concert, and a military ceremony, featuring remarks from the Naval Air Station Patuxent River Base Commander and a commemorative wreath laying on the waterfront. This free event is open to the public and is an opportunity to learn more about one of Maryland’s worst nautical disasters and other information about St. Mary’s County during the American Civil War.

    Annual Montpelier Festival of Herbs, Tea, and the Arts

    Details: Welcome spring and delight in the sights and sounds of nature, art, and history at this fun festival for the entire family, hosted by Montpelier House Museum and Montpelier Arts Center. Visit with vendors on the grounds, relax to live music in the Music Tent, attend a talk on gardening, tour the house museum, and indulge in a Picnic Tea Box with finger sandwiches, pastries and a scone inside (available to order starting April 1). At the Arts Center, you can see exhibits, visit artists’ studios, watch demos, and attend a live performance.

    Starting April 1st through April 25th, 2024, picnic Tea Boxes with finger sandwiches, a scone, pastries, and tea will be available for purchase. Boxes Must Be Picked Up At The Festival.
