This celebrated production is set in historic 1882 Georgetown with George Washington, King George III, and other historical figures. Set to Tchaikovsky’s magical score, this celebrated classic comes to life with intricate, stunning set designs, original period costumes, and over 100 dancers including students and trainees from The Washington School of Ballet. It has become the signature Nutcracker of the nation’s capital. Details: Open to accommodate guests visiting town during the Veteran’s Day parade. La Plata’s train station has long been a symbol of the founding and growth of our town. It is also the sole surviving passenger station on the Pope’s Creek Line of the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad. What better place to host a museum dedicated to telling the story of La Plata’s beginning and development and the rise and decline of the Pope’s Creek Line? Step back in time to get a glimpse of the La Plata that was and the events that shaped La Plata’s path! This is the first opening of the Museum since 2019, and new exhibits are on display.

The Playful Parent was created by Kristy a mother of three energetic boys. She has a Bachelors degree with a interest in Education and Masters in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. “I believe that children learn through play! I love to do fun things with my children and hope that sharing our adventures provides other families with inspiration and resources that lead to quality time together and a love for learning!” This non profit 501c3 organization was started so parents would have a family friendly place to come to, feel supported and leave with information that is useful. This site is kept advertisement and influence free in order to keep the page from clutter and bias opinion. Your support, feedback, likes and comments are essential; this site was designed to connect the community. The Playful Parent offers resources such as guides, calendars and ideas for making learning fun. In addition, TPP is present in the community and hosts a handful of events to support SOMD in raising healthy families.
