Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is performing at the National Theatre July through September 7, 2025. As huge Harry Potter fans, this show was a must-see for me and my oldest son. Let me say that if you’re a Wizarding World enthusiast, then this is the perfect show for you.

Cursed Child is a glimpse into the Potterverse about twenty years after The Battle of Hogwarts. All the main characters have grown up, and have children and careers of their own. Meet the next generation of Potters, Ganger-Weasley’s, and Malfoy’s as they embark on their journeys. The storyline focuses on Harry’s middle child, Al, short for Albus Severus Potter. From the start, Al doesn’t quite fit in, finding it hard to live up to his father’s legacy. This social ostracism leads to the need for a friend. An alliance between the least unlikely friends develops between Albus and Scorpius, the son of Draco Malfoy. The storyline itself is remarkable, and resonated with me, as it brings to light the excitement and difficulties in growing up and the joy and heartache in raising a teen.

While the theme of the story is enchanting, I have to take a moment to share about the magic of the show. From pyrotechnics to combat scenes and apparitions to spells, it will completely blow you away. I expected sparklers from wands and puffs of smoke. I wasn’t prepared for the spectacular wonder of magic brought to life. Watch objects levitate, and people disappear right in the blink of an eye. Without giving away the mystery and wonder, please take my word and go! I promise you will be amazed and left in awe.

TIPS & TRICKS

Here are some tips to make your experience magic:
- What to wear: I highly recommend either wearing your Harry Potter fanatic shirt, house colors, or cosplay costume. I saw a handful of people dressed in Hogwarts house robes, as well as audience members in their favorite t-shirts. We did not cosplay this time due to the weather. However, I think it would it would be more magical and memorable to go in full garb.
- Make it fun: Bring your wand! This will make the experience feel immersive and fun.
- Age Group: The show is lengthy, and the content is most interesting to ages 10 and up. There were a few younger kids under age 8 who looked to struggle after intermission.
- Save money: This show offers a lottery system with reduced-priced tickets. Be sure to check out the Golden Snitch lottery. Each winner is allowed to purchase up to two (2) tickets at $40 each. Those who would like to enter the lottery can do so in the Broadway at The National App (download here: https://www.broadwayatthenational.com/digital-lottery/ )
