This is the perfect time of year to share about the book Free To Be Incredible Me. My boys really enjoyed this book and found it encouraging that they can do things that aren’t typically masculine. ABOUT THE BOOK
Joelle-Elizabeth Retener, tells the tale of a little boy who discovers the importance of loving and accepting himself for who he truly is. In this story, Manny becomes discouraged and broken-hearted on his first day of school after being teased by a classmate for bringing a rag doll to class. His dad sets out on a quest to cheer him up and show his son the importance of self-acceptance and self-love. On their journey they explore new outfits, hairstyles and forms of self expression.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Joelle has always had a deep passion for books and reading. After becoming a mother she quickly realized, that there were few books that resonated with her son, a black boy who loved pink, associated with female characters, and toys that were considered “for girls”. Joelle wrote Free to be Incredible Me to empower all children to dare to be different and question social norms regarding gender. In her past life, she was a U.S. diplomat with the Department of State, traveling the world promoting. U.S. foreign policy priorities. When she is not writing or homeschooling her littles, you can find her belting out her favorite tunes.
