From community theater to high school drama clubs and professional theater to children’s theater; there are some great local shows for audiences of all ages this spring. Theater is more than just entertainment, it is a art form. Immersing children in the arts is important and many of these local shows offer a great way to introduce younger audiences to the world of performing arts. I love that local theater company’s are realizing how important theater is to children’s development. Many of the shows this spring are catering to a younger age.

The benefits from involvement in the arts are remarkable. UCLA did a study which concluded, that students exposed to the arts are more likely to be involved in community service, and are less likely to drop out of school. Performing arts also teach children how to think creatively through imagination and helps children develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. Theater is great for social-emotional development as well; attending shows teaches young ones empathy and cultural relativity.
Let’s give a huge round of applause to the theater groups who have put together some amazing shows this Spring. I especially want to thank the Producers and Directors who selected family friendly shows that encourage children of all ages to attend a show. Without this opportunity, children would be missing out on an amazing experience, not to mention excellent learning opportunity.
