Thomas & Friends has officially rolled into Kennywood this summer of 2018. Kennywood a theme park located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania celebrated it’s 120th anniversary this year by welcoming the famous No. 1 engine to the park. This addition is called Thomas Town, a section featuring five new Thomas & Friends themed rides plus a live show, train ride with Thomas himself, and an amazing indoor themed play area. The opening of Thomas Town marks the second-largest permanent Thomas & Friends attraction in North America. The first largest being Thomas Land in Edaville, Massachusetts. So lets take a look at what Thomas town has to offer.
Venture off to the Island of Sodor where you can visit all your favorite trains. Here is a look at the rides and attractions in this section:
Cranky’s Drop Tower: On this fun ride Sodor’s strongest crane lifts you way up high then drop you down! This is a great ride to get a birds eye view of Thomas Town.
Riders must be at least 42” tall to ride.
Diesel Drivers: Don’t forget the Diesels! Climb aboard Diesel, Iron Bert and other Diesel engines for a fun ride.
Riders under 36” tall must ride with a responsible person; there is no maximum height restriction. No handheld infants.
Flynn’s Fire Training: Your little firefighter can shoot water to extinguish flames or be the driver on this unique, interactive ride.

Harold’s Helicopter Tour: In this ride the kids get to be the pilot.

Journey with Thomas: Head to Kennywood Station for an unforgettable Journey with the No. 1 blue engine! Guest of all ages can hop aboard a train ride with Thomas and enjoy views of the Monongahela River and Edgar Thomson Steel Works, the oldest steel mill in the Steel City.
Steel City Adventures live show at Tidmouth Sheds:
Join Gordon, James, Emily, Percy & Sir Topham Hatt as they prepare for a very special adventure on the rails. A few important deliveries need to make it safely from the Island of Sodor to the Steel City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Each engine has a unique job and special cargo to deliver. So hop on board as Kennywood proudly presents, Steel City Adventures! at Tidmouth Sheds, Thomas Town.
Thomas & Friends Big Adventure Play Zone: Children can have big adventures and big fun in a soft play area, construct test tracks for the Steam Team, and relive some of the characters’ favorite moments in our media center! (Tip: Bring Socks!!! Socks must be worn in the Big Adventures Play Zone — shoes, sandals and bare feet are prohibited. Socks are sold in the gift shop; however, it’s less of a headache to bring your own!)
4-D- Show: Bubbling Boiler– For a limited time Thomas and Friends is in the theater. Watch a show that comes alive before your eyes. Watch a 4-D movie while seeing real bubbles float in the air, get splashed with water and have wind blow through your hair.
KENNYWOOD PARK
Remember Thomas Town is just an addition to Kennywood Park. There are a lot more rides and attractions for families to see and do. I recommend visiting Kiddie Land for more rides for little’s. The food at the park is pretty good too! The french fries at The Potato Patch are amazing. Don’t forget to pick up a sweet treat at Lucky’s or Rita’s. My favorite was fresh squeezed Strawberry Lemonade!
