Spring is one of my most favorite times of the year for many reasons; from the simple reasons of blooming flowers and warmer weather to the great joy and forgiveness that Easter brings. Welcoming spring always makes me look forward to fun festivities like; dying eggs and having a good old-fashioned Easter egg hunt. However, there is something deeper and more meaningful I hope my children get from the holiday. Teaching my children the true meaning of Easter is very important to me. After all it is the foundation of our Christian faith. I’m relieved that I discovered Star From Afar, a toy company that creates toys and games that are both meaningful and playful with a purpose.

I had never seen or heard of Star From Afar until I attended a Toy Fair in New York this past February. After meeting the team members of this company I quickly fell in love with their toys that are well crafted, gorgeous and promote religious education in a fun way.

This year our family has started a new tradition to learn the true meaning of Easter through an activity kit called The Easter Egg Story; which includes 7 beautifully painted wooden nesting eggs and a brightly illustrated story book. This is a fun and interactive story in which the children get to discover a smaller egg within each of the larger nesting eggs. The story book coordinates with the eggs to reveal the Easter Story through eight chapters that represent Holy Week: Palm Sunday, House of Prayer Monday, Teacher of Love Tuesday, Give and Take Wednesday, Last Supper Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. I love that the last day symbolically ends with an empty egg.

It’s great that this activity can be used in two different ways. You can open one egg each day of Holy Week or read the entire book in one sitting. Regardless of how you choose to use The Easter Story Egg, it is a great too to teach your children about the story of Easter.
