My MOPS (Moms of Preschoolers) group met last week and made the most beautiful nativity style Christmas ornament. I loved this idea so much that my boys and I worked together to make gifts for friends and teachers using the idea. We made both the holy family and angel ornaments using wooden doll pins.

HOW TO MAKE NATIVITY ORNAMENTS

1E2085AE-B4A3-44A3-B046-61CBFBDC8E75Step 1: Gather everything you need and plug-in your glue gun so that it has time to warm up. (Warning!!! Please be careful when using a hot glue gun. Use small dots of glue and don’t press with your fingers into the glue; it gets extremely hot. Hot Glue burns can be serious. Using the glue gun should be done by an adult not child.)
Step 2: Paint wooden doll pins. I painted mine with neutral colors using blues, browns and greens. Be sure to paint in thin layers so that they dry quicker; you can layer on paint to make it as thick as prefer. Once painted, set them aside to dry.  (This step is great to get help from the kids on.)
Step 3: Cut three small squares of felt using different colors, you will need one for the blanket and two for head pieces.  For the head pieces, I cut each square and then rounded the edges on the top two corners.
Step 4: Carefully using your glue gun press down the felt to make head pieces on Mary and Joseph. Next, swaddle the baby in the felt blanket. I used a dab of hot glue each time I made a fold in the swaddle and then secured with twine wrap.
Step 5: Using hot glue, secure Mary and Joseph together. Next, glue Jesus in Mary and Josephs arms.
Step 6: Cut a 5-6 inch long piece of twine and tie the end to create a loop. Hot glue the loop to the back of the doll pins.
