CRAFT

I want to thank everyone who attended the Jump Into Health program on November 21, 2017. This program was created in order to share the importance of a healthy nutrition and physical activity and focused on teaching little ones about eating healthy and exercising in a fun way. The Playful Parent and Sky Zone teamed up to bring this great program to the community. Activities included jumping around and getting energy out at the trampoline park, reading a story and creating a fun snack craft. Not to mention, everyone who came got tasty freebies to take home and sample provided by Mum-Mum snacks and moms meet!

WHY I STARTED THE PROGRAM

Before having children I remember saying to myself…Never will I ever let my kids be picky eaters. They won’t be kids who only eat PBJ, macaroni and cheese or pizza. I was convinced that each one of my children would have a large palate and enjoy many cuisines. After having children, I soon found out how real the struggle can be.  There are days when they enjoy trying new foods or eat everything on their plates and than there are days when they wont eat whats given to them or refuse something that they once loved.

I want my kids to understand that eating food serves a purpose. That what we eat provides our body with nutrients and energy. It would be great if there was a program designed for kids right? One where they could learn the importance of healthy eating! A workshop that would movitate them to try new foods or eat to live not live to eat. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any such program in the community. I thought to myself… this is important; how can I start one!?! I researched books and activities and reached out to Skyzone for help. Of course we scheduled the program right away and it was a success.

GROUP

If you missed the program don’t worry, I hope to host another one again soon. The Playful Parent is a non profitting resource page. I know that I often host fun giveaways and share the latest about whats fun in the community but my passion is to advocate learning through play. I promise to continue to bring free and low cost programs to the community!

SNACK  CRAFT IDEA

After learning about the five food groups everyone had a chance to make a turkey with five different snacks to represent each food group. Popcorn (vegetable), raisins (fruit), cereal (grain), yogurt melts (dairy) and sunflower seeds (protien.)

INGREDIENTS

Ahead of time I sorted each each ingredient into bowls for scooping. The first step is to draw an eye and tape a orange triange peice of paper on the thumb of the glove to make your turkeys head. Next fill each finger with a different food group. Once the fingers are filled you can fill the body of your turkey and tie the bottom of the glove.

THANK YOU
