I always get excited when local theaters put on quality shows that families and small children can enjoy!  The Newtowne Players will be performing Twas The Night Before Christmas at the Three Notch Theatre in Lexington Park, Maryland from November 17th through December 10, 2017 (no performances on Thanksgiving weekend.)

This adorable play written by Ken Ludwig takes you on a grand Christmas adventure with a brave mouse, magical elf, and a spunky little girl who embark on a quest to the North Pole. The play starts off with the classic narration…”‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.” However, in this story a mouse really is stirring! Emily played by young actress Sophia Williams, and her pet mouse, Amos played by talented Andrew Roell, are curious to why their house was missed by Santa last year.  A concenred elf from the ELF-B-I, Calliope, played by Meg Pugh, is determined to solve the mystery.   Together the three are determined to save Christmas. Steve Pugh plays the Uncle as well as the villainous Sir Guy who’s intent is to steal Santa’s naughty and nice list. Our brave heros take on the villain in wild goose chases and silly sword fights. Come out to see the show and find out if they save Christmas.

With creative direction from Timothy Joyce and talented cast, the story really brings the joy of Chritmas to life in a delightful and humorous way. The set design by Chris Maulden and properties by Greg Rumph are impressive. They did an excellent job creating Santas Workshop. One of things I found really cool is that you can make toy donations that will be displayed in Santa’s Workshop during the run of the show and than donated to Toys for Tots. Twas Night Before Christmas is the perfect performance to get you into the holiday spirits.
