CHARLES COUNTY MOBILE LIBRARY SERVICES- PLAYFUL PARENT GUIDE

The county has been advocating and working hard to provide a mobile library to the community for a long time now. After two years of hard work; a 26 foot long vehicle is finally ready to deliver over 2,000 books, outdoor programming, public computers with wifi and online database to the community starting this Spring/Summer 2017. This impressive vehicle has a wheelchair lift for accessibility and even a side awning that allows shade for outdoor programming. This impressive mobile library offers resources to adult, teen, and even has an extensive children’s collections.

The mobile branch is a great program because it creates opportunities for Charles county residents to engage, discover, and learn literary in their back yard so to speak; by bringing library services to neighborhoods those who are unable to travel are able to enjoy benefits of library services. Attached in this article you will find the link to the mobile library calendar which is in service 20 days a month.

I’m most excited about the children’s programming and that there is a really great collection of books and DVD’s for youth of all ages. You can check out books and even get a library card at the mobile branch!

Monthly services currently available by through the mobile branch include:

  • Homebound Services- Materials are provided and delivered to individuals that are homebound and unable to visit a library branch due to illness or disability.
  • Storytime Programs – These programs are offered to childcare providers and centers licensed through the Office of Child Care Licensing& Regulations. These are also available to public and private schools, Head Start and preschool classrooms that meet the age and child requirements.
  • Lending Library deposit collection sites- These sites are located in institutions, senior centers, community centers and post offices in rural areas of Charles County.
Staff will make every attempt to accommodate requests for library and educational programs.

The Playful Parent had the opportunity to tour the mobile library before it opened in May and was even in some footage. Check out this great video that highlights what the mobile library offers, as well as explains the hard work that went into making this possible:
