TOILET PAPER ROLL BINOCULARS
I have a horrible habit of setting the empty toilet paper rolls next to the bathroom trash can to take them down for recycling – and there they stay for weeks… I realized how many were collecting there and so we have today’s craft.
Supplies:
– 2 Toilet Paper Rolls
– Construction Paper
– Markers, crayons, stickers, etc.
– Yarn or string
– Scissors
– Glue and/or tape
Craft:
- Cut the construction paper into rectangles that will cover the rolls, approximately 4 x 6 inches.
- Let your little one decorate the rectangles with markers or crayons.
- Attach the paper to the rolls. Use a straight line of glue to start, then a few more as you go and a final line of glue where the paper edges overlap. You could also tape the starting and finishing edges in place.
- Attach the two rolls together. We used white glue which allowed for me to adjust placement. I used the yarn to help hold them together while the glue dried. My little one can play rough so I chose to re-enforce them by going over the seam with hot glue. You could also use washi tape (or regular tape) around the top and bottom to better hold them together.
- Poke holes using the scissors about half an inch down on each side. Be careful not to stab yourself or dent the rolls.
- Thread your yarn through the holes and double knot them. I used about a yard of yarn because I knew she’d want us to wear them too. (We just knot it in the back for her.) Re-enforce with glue or tape on the inside. You can let your little one decorate more with stickers if they’d like.
- Go on an adventure! I made a few little birds for her to look for with her new binoculars.
