TOILET PAPER ROLL BINOCULARS

B- FinishedBinoculars

I have a horrible habit of setting the empty toilet paper rolls next to the bathroom trash can to take them down for recycling – and there they stay for weeks… I realized how many were collecting there and so we have today’s craft.

Supplies:

– 2 Toilet Paper Rolls

– Construction Paper

– Markers, crayons, stickers, etc.

– Yarn or string

– Scissors

– Glue and/or tape

Craft:

  1. Cut the construction paper into rectangles that will cover the rolls, approximately 4 x 6 inches.

  1. Let your little one decorate the rectangles with markers or crayons.
  1. Attach the paper to the rolls. Use a straight line of glue to start, then a few more as you go and a final line of glue where the paper edges overlap. You could also tape the starting and finishing edges in place.

B-Attach Paper

  1. Attach the two rolls together. We used white glue which allowed for me to adjust placement. I used the yarn to help hold them together while the glue dried. My little one can play rough so I chose to re-enforce them by going over the seam with hot glue. You could also use washi tape (or regular tape) around the top and bottom to better hold them together.B- Attach Paper End (1)
  2. Poke holes using the scissors about half an inch down on each side. Be careful not to stab yourself or dent the rolls.
  3. Thread your yarn through the holes and double knot them. I used about a yard of yarn because I knew she’d want us to wear them too. (We just knot it in the back for her.) Re-enforce with glue or tape on the inside. You can let your little one decorate more with stickers if they’d like.

  1. Go on an adventure! I made a few little birds for her to look for with her new binoculars.

Craft By: Heather L.

Thank you Heather for putting this weeks Homemade Monday craft together. It is perfect timing for spring! It’s that time of year for nature walks. We paired this craft with the poem “Two Little Black Birds.”

Two little black birds
Sitting on a hill
One named Jack,
The other named Jill

Fly away Jack,
Fly away Jill
Come back Jack
Come back Jill
