Stone Mountain has always had a special meaning to my family; especially since the translation of my maiden name means Stone Mountain. Looking back on fond memories from my childhood, I remember my first visit to Stone Mountain and how magical it was to watch the mountain come alive with lights during the laser show. It’s hard to forget how small you feel standing next to such a huge mountain and how safe you feel wrapped around a parents leg as ascend upwards in a Skyride that takes you higher than you’ve ever been before. It’s exciting as a mom to take you kids to your favorite past times and create new memories for with your own children. I have to admit that when planning our vacation to Georgia I knew this was the one place that I absolutely HAD to take my kids. A lot of things have been added to the park since my first visit.

There is so much to do for audiences of all ages and interests. It is a remarkable place whether you enjoy hiking and admiring nature or having fun and being entertained. You can get in touch with Mother Nature by camping or relax and be pampered at the Resort & Spa. With the ability to tour around Stone Mountain by rail, land, water or sky you are sure to get amazing views of this historical landmark.

So many attractions are included in park admission: Historic Square, Memorial Hall Museum, Ride the Ducks, Summit Skyride, Scenic Rail Road, Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf, Farm Yard, The Great Barn, Geyser Tower, Camp Highland Outpost, Sky Hike, Yogi Bear 4-D Adventure, Lasershow Spectacular and other seasonal shows such as the Chicago Boys (a must see) on the summer 2016 program.

Here are some sneak peeks at my boy’s best memories of Stone Mountain Park.

Ride the Ducks- I will never forget my oldest sons face when Captain Le Pew told us we would be driving into the water. This amphibious tour was full of historical information and hysterical fun. I think my youngest son’s favorite part was getting a chance to drive the Duck.

Scenic Rail Road- My kids are obsessed with trains so of course we had to climb aboard this vintage 1940’s locomotive that pulls open-air cars which take you on a five-mile adventure around the mountain. It is a great way to view the beauty and wonder of the landscapes surrounding the park.

Skyride-With one attached to my hip and the other wrapped around my leg we marveled over the beautiful views as we sore over 825 ft about ground on a high-speed Swiss cable car.

The Great Barn- This is hands down the coolest indoor play zone I have ever been too. With three super slides, trampoline floors and over 65 interactive games your whole family is sure to be entertained.

Geyser Towers- Don’t forget your little ones close toed water shoes so they can enjoy this awesome climbing zone with water features.

Lasershow Spectacular- We watched the show from terrace seating which was awesome! It had rained a little bit that day so the ground was a little wet; for this reason I was thrilled about having seats on the terrace that were dry and pre set for us. Also, it was an added bonus that terrace seating includes beverages, snacks and even glow sticks. The show was amazing; we got to see the new mini clip “Drone Wars: The Mountain Awakens.” It was epic to see the boys faces light up as they watched the laser show accompanied with fireworks and flame cannons paired with iconic music.

Tips: The Park is stroller friendly with lots of places designated to park strollers while enjoying rides. If you forgot your stroller don’t fret you can rent one. One of the best locations to eat in the park is at the Market Place located in front of the train station. We liked this spot because there are healthy food choices and there’s a fun model train you can watch ride around the cafeteria. One of my biggest suggestions is to ride the train, skyride and duck tour early in the day. This is because Georgia is humid and accumulates evening thunderstorms; most of the rides will take a temporary break to let storms pass. Don’t worry you can visit the Great Barn, 4-D Adventure, Shows and visit the museum to stay dry and entertained. The wait for the laser show can be long for little ones with short attention spans. You can bring a toy or buy something from the gift shop to keep them entertained while the sun sets.
