For our last Day in Plymouth we decided to take an excursion down to Hyannis. What better way to start off the day than aboard a train ride that displays the hidden beauty of The Cape. Enjoy a relaxing narrated tour that passes lush marshes, serene woodland, cranberry bogs and historic landmarks of The Cape aboard a two hour scenic train ride.

Narration will highlight the landscape and share information about the story of cranberry bogs, interesting facts about the land and unique stories that bring character to The Cape. The boys enjoyed hearing the story about a black bear that traveled down the Cape through treacherous conditions to make its home on the coast.

Your little conductor is sure to enjoy watching the engine switch tracks at the end of the journey down as it couples up to the other end of the train for your trip back to Hyannis. It’s a special treat to break at Sandwich for a whistle stop and hear the massive diesels mighty whistle.

We sat in the dining car which was a special treat. This first class option offers large windows with optimal views and spacious seating for extra comfort. Unfortunately, the ride available on the day we traveled did not offer a meal service. However, I have read a great amount of reviews that rave about the dining experience. For our trip lunchbox and snacks were available for sale. Before boarding the train you could purchase a lunchbox. The meal included your choice of deli wrap, kettle chips and a cookie. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were available for the kids. An attendant will cater to your needs and bring beverages and treats to your table. Snacks include fresh popped popcorn and candies.

At the end of your trip ask the engineer if they have time to show  you the engine. This experience isn’t a guaranteed but worth asking.

TIPS & PLANNING AHEAD

– Best seats are in the observation deck and first class, worth the extra cost for optimal views.

– No personal snacks or food allowed. So be sure to eat before going or plan on buying concessions.

– The trip can be long for some littles, be sure to pack a toy or two for entertaining.

-Summer train excursions book fast so be sure to purchase your tickets a head.
