When my oldest son started asking to go to ThomasLand in Massachusetts, I was over the moon that it was located a few miles from Plymouth.  The opportunity to visit a town that ties you to your family routes is a double win. My great grandmother Ruth Ella Weymouth enjoyed genealogy. She traveled the country writing about the Weymouth Family History and recording lineage. It’s important to have record of your family tree and to understand when and why your ancestors came to America.

Making the decision to travel to Massachusetts was a winner for this year’s summer vacation spot. I booked our stay at Hotel 1620 in order to be close to the harbor. This hotel is centrally located downtown and walking distance from the Mayflower 2 replica and other historical exhibits. I can’t wait to take pictures of our family in front Plymouth Rock so we can add our own page to the Weymouth book. How cool to see the Rock that marks the place where my family began the first permanent European settlement in New England! We are also visiting Plymouth Plantation which will be a fun way to learn about life in the colonial days. I think we will enjoy stepping back in time to the 17th century. This historical museum is special in that it’s a living history exhibit where you can explore and experience the village like it was in 1627.

Shhh…don’t tell the kids the true reason we are visiting Plymouth. It’s not always about the trains, lol.
